Aveda Ecogreen
What they do:
Aveda's broad initiatives are with :
Waste Management
Aveda provides services to the industrial, commercial & municipal sectors towards characterization, procurement & segregation of hydrocarbon-based wastes and recovery of calorific energy contained therein. We manage a wide range of hydrocarbon based waste streams, including streams which are often disposed by landfilling, incineration or dumping. The waste management initiative endeavours to provide environmental compliance to the waste generator at an economical cost, while simultaneously helping to divert avoidable waste (including plastics) from reaching landfills.
Small Hydropower
The company also has a charter towards generation of green energy through establishment of small hydropower plants in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in India. Unlike large hydropower projects which are associated with adverse ecological and social impacts, Aveda prefers installation of small hydro projects which are run-of-the-river, employ no damming or consumptive use of the water and offer employment opportunities to the remote regions where they are executed.
Farm Plantation
The company also manages a farm in Madurai in Tamil Nadu where commercially valuable native timber species is being planted alongwith other horticultural crops on a degraded pasture.
Climate Change Initiatives
Climate change will affect the basic elements of life for people around the world –access to water, food production, health, and the environment. Hundreds of millions of people could suffer hunger, water shortages and coastal flooding as the world warms. If no action is taken to reduce emissions, the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere could reach double its pre-industrial level as early as 2035, virtually committing us to a global average temperature rise of over 2°C leading to major changes in where people live and how they live their lives.
